Over the years I have decorated several Christmas trees\u2026there was the blue and green tree, the pink and silver one, the gold and blue, the many multi colored ones. This year I decided to make a meaningful tree in that I only put up one of a kind decorations that were either gifts or purchased during trips abroad. I have one for each of the last 30 years. To make the decorations stand out I used a birch tree rather than a spruce. Here are a few of my most significant decorations.<\/p>\n

The very first decoration I ever purchased was as a new bride and mother to be; I had just found out I was pregnant so purchased this little wooden baby carriage to announce it discretely.<\/p>\n

\nThe following year, I organized a tree trimming party to celebrate our baby\u2019s 6 months\u2026and got this fancy and very heavy decoration with the year carved in.<\/p>\n

Dated decorations became useful to remember special events\u2026such as the year we had a family of raccoons at the cabin.<\/p>\n

Others are finds, such as this Bernese mountain dog decoration.<\/p>\n

Some decorations were hand made by the children such as this wooden bucket dated 1997.<\/p>\n

Nowadays as the children and I travel more and more, we try to find and bring back pieces that are typical of the countries we visited.
\nI have several charming decorations from Switzerland.<\/p>\n

I have a tree from France, made of real leaves that mysteriously stays fresh year after year.<\/p>\n

Last year I purchased this pair in Mexico.<\/p>\n

This year I found this ball in the grand bazaar in Istanbul.<\/p>\n
