That is how I got to take two trips almost back to back. The cruise story will eventually show up on the travel side, but the trip to Anna Maria Island\u00a0 I will talk about here.<\/p>\n<p>First off, let me say it was cold, very cold, and extremely windy. Having said that, it is a beautiful place, the beach is an endless stretch of powdery white sand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flyingplates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/anamaria2.jpg\" title=\"anamaria2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/flyingplates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/anamaria2.jpg\" alt=\"anamaria2.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Because of the wind the waves were very high which is unusual for the gulf.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flyingplates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/anamaria7.jpg\" title=\"anamaria7.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/flyingplates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/anamaria7.jpg\" alt=\"anamaria7.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sea birds fascinate me&#8230;and I was especially taken by these funny little guys braving the wind.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flyingplates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/anamaria4.jpg\" title=\"anamaria4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/flyingplates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/anamaria4.jpg\" alt=\"anamaria4.jpg\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/flyingplates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/anamaria42.jpg\" title=\"anamaria42.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/flyingplates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/anamaria42.jpg\" alt=\"anamaria42.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These were less showy but very fashionable with their polka dot tails:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flyingplates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/anamaria3.jpg\" title=\"anamaria3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/flyingplates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/anamaria3.jpg\" alt=\"anamaria3.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We went walking in the marshes and saw several egrets (I hope that&#8217;s what they were)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flyingplates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/anamaria5.jpg\" title=\"anamaria5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/flyingplates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/anamaria5.jpg\" alt=\"anamaria5.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While the east coast offers great sunrises to the brave, the gulf boasts lovely sunsets at a more civilized cocktail hour.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flyingplates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/anamaria8.jpg\" title=\"anamaria8.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/flyingplates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/anamaria8.jpg\" alt=\"anamaria8.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last summer I\u00a0 planned a vacation on the Gulf side of Florida for this winter\u00a0 never guessing that I would win a cruise to the Caribbean in the meantime.
