The Kestros (Aksu) river, which ran through it, made Perge a port because it was possible to navigate. The city is also famous for the fact that St.Paul visited Perge in 46 A.D. and preached his first sermon here. That&#8217;s why it became an important city for the Christians during the Byzantine period.<br>Archeological digs have unearthed its theatre, its stadium, and porticoed road.
