They were set up about 30 km apart to allow caravans to have safe havens along the way. They were fort like stone constructions. The travelers were allowed three nights free of charge. Their animals were fed and cared for, their merchandise was unloaded and stored. There were dining halls , baths and dormitories for everyone.
