Back from Miami

I went back to Florida. This time I was visiting cruise ships. I wrote about it in the travel section. It was not as much fun as taking a cruise but being anywhere warm in February beats being at home!
I was surprised to get the best seats on each flight even though had forgotten to reserve my seats in advance…I wonder if the fact that I was using points helped or was it my irresistible smile???
And when I got to the car rental I was told to choose any car I wanted on the lot, even if I had reserved and paid for a compact car…I guess it was my lucky day!

I had some free time so I went to visit the King Tutankhamun exhibit in Fort Lauderdale. I was impressed by the quality and number of pieces on display. I was surprised at how attentive visitors were, stopping to read every description. It is mind boggling to think that he was a only minor king yet there is so much gold and treasures in his tomb…imagine what must have been inside the tombs of great leaders…. We probably owe the conservation of his burial site to the fact that he was not deemed worthy of looking for and vandalizing. Archeology is not something that I know a lot about but I sometimes wonder how they can be so sure of what they say is written on those stones…or who those sculptures represent… it seems that young Tutankamun was buried in someone else’s tomb who was much older and thus expected to croak much sooner…then it seems that people would scrape off people’s names off of monuments and carve someone else’s instead…quite a puzzle to unravel…A worthwhile stop!

While in Miami, I went to South Beach to have a look at the art deco buildings. It reminds me of some buildings in New York City. I cannot say I really visited Miami, so I am not in a position to give an opinion but what we did see, which is in the Biscayne Bay area was mostly construction and roads…no life…. We did have a nice supper on Lincoln Road, which is a pedestrian street with a very European, feel. My colleagues went into a bar called “Touch” that is very popular I am told.

Some of us went to Parrot Jungle Island. I got to photograph some pretty colorful birds.
