“KAMATAKI”

I went to see a beautiful film yesterday. It is set in Japan and tells the story of a young man who, after a failed suicide attempt, is sent by his mother to visit his uncle in Japan. The uncle is a famous potter and takes his nephew on as an apprentice…of many things…
Kamataki is the operation of firing the pottery into the wooden kiln for several continuous days and nights.
I felt like I was on a small boat drifting along a river… I just wanted to follow the stream wherever it took me. The photography is beautiful, the music is unexpeccted at times but always a perfect counterpoint to the action or images. The actors are riveting. The film is touching, funny, sad, sexy, scary, mysterious, enchanting…and a lot more….
This one will stand along the best films I have seen in a long time…
