Last week during my lunch break I walked into a fancy clothing store to have a look at the new summer clothes. This is a high end store and I only go in there if my hair is nicely done, and I am wearing make up and smart clothes. As I walked around with a haughty expression on my face (to match the other ladies milling about) I noticed a small sign that read: “Win a $1000.00 Bianca Nyagard wardrobe. No purchase necessary”. I know they have to add that because for some legal reason they cannot advertise a contest that requires a purchase…but I have always suspected that people who do purchase something have a better chance of winning…my paranoia has led me to believe that if a salesperson saw me drop a ballot in the box without having bought something she would fish it out of the box to make sure I could not win. So I devised a plan. First I spotted the ballot box and made sure there were blank forms left to fill. Then I walked slowly through the store circling the area where the box was, keeping an eye on the salesladies at that counter. Like a vulture circling its prey…very slowly…but never loosing sight…. Then, I saw an opportunity!!! The counter was deserted! I walked briskly over, grabbed a pen and quickly filled a ballot. I folded it just so it would open up once inside the box therefore taking up more room thus increasing my exposed surface and by consequence my odds of being picked up. There IS a science to these things! And then I walked away discrete as a shadow…
Well…. guess what???
I got a call on Saturday informing me that I was the winner of the second prize: $750.00 worth of clothing by that same designer!!!
Stay tuned for the rest of the story, when I collect my winnings…
