Recently, as I was reserving a car for a client, the reservation agent was babbling on and on about the fact that the car was equipped with a GPS. Being totally ignorant of cars and their technology, I was not overly impressed. I thought it meant that it was equipped with a “Boomerang” type gizmo that could locate the car if it was stolen…that was until I got to ride in a car equipped with one!!!
Wow! was I ever off the track!!!
This car had a screen (or monitor) the size of a portable DVD player, on which a map of the city appeared. Then the driver punched in our destination (the car was smart enough to know where we were) and from then on a nice female voice told the driver where to go, when and in what direction to turn and all the while we could follow our progression on the map. This map also indicated , hospitals, gas stations and restaurants along the way…and if we did not follow the lady’s instructions she did not get mad, she just instructed us on how to get back on track…Imagine all the arguments this can avoid!!!
I am told that the lady can speak in a variety of languages, assuming you rent such a car in a foreign country…
Isn’t technology amazing???
