My favourite festival is on! They have moved it from St Denis street to De Maisonneuve boulevard. The street is wider so there is more room to move but there are no restaurants, bars or terraces to sit at to watch the show pass by. Nonetheless I have been twice and plan on going again this weekend.
I spent one evening in the play area, manning the backgammon tables and got to play many matches as most people showed up alone. One ice cream wielding little girl wanted to play. I explained the game and we started…I kept moving the board so her ice cream would not melt onto the felt…I was trying to play fast but she was taking her sweet time, getting stickier with every roll of the dice…as the game ended, and I thought I had been successfull, I bent down to get a kleenex from my purse and got back up just in time to see the last of the ice cream topple into the checkers neatly piled up on the board….oh well…
I got to see an group of performers on stilts…I still do not grasp the concept…but it was spectacular…
But the most impressive display, to me, was the parade: a parade of huge helium filled sculptures of marine animals. They float above and around you so you feel like you are at the bottom of the ocean… It is amazing…but hard to photograph…here are my first attempts
