I was tired, I had no energy, I felt I was not recuperating fast enough, winter was dragging, I decided to take a long weekend in Florida. I got a last minute deal to Fort Lauderdale. Things started out nicely as I was offered a direct flight in lieu of the connecting flights I had booked. I got there quickly, picked up my car without issues and drove to my beach front hotel. This was my first visit to Fort Lauderdale by the Sea. Although the water is a beautiful colour, the beach was a disappointment. It is lined with highrise buildings, it is not deep, the sand is too soft to walk comfortably and it is littered by garbage. Nonetheless I was happy to be in the sun by the ocean. I could not get enough of the sunrises.
I got to see a live Portuguese man-of-war. It was surprizingly colourful, and reminiscent of breast implants in shape. It seems that the dangerous part is the long tails dragging behind it.
There is a fishing peer that attracts as many pelicans as fishermen…
And then…I woke up one morning with a fever and a throbbing earache. I visited a local doctor who diagnosed an infection and told me not to fly for several days…I had no choice but to wait it out. It was expensive and inconvenient but at least I was stuck in nice weather.
