End of september

I have not written anything in a while. I have been busy with the new house…

It still does not feel like  my home. The sounds, the smells, the look and feel  are not mine. Sorting through a long wish list has been sobering: everything costs more than you would think. Choosing paint colours is a challenge. Those tiny paint chips hardly give you an idea of what an entire room will look like. Right now everything is base coat white which feels very “lab like”. Hopefully this week colours should make an appearance…and will  be tolerable. When everything is said and done I think it is a roll of the dice…and if it is horrible…you just start over.

As there is no furniture yet, I have spent a lot of time looking out the windows…besides lots of neighbours’ windows looking back there is a shrub with mysterious fruit that glisten in the afternoon sun…

Up at the cabin I have finally given up on the puzzle I started months ago. It is a different version of  Arcimboldo’s Fruit Face Man which I had put on the cover of my cookbook. This is the first puzzle I have been unable to finish….but there just is too many black pieces. I am disappointed in myself but it was a relief to put the pieces away, and not have them in my face as a constant reminder of my inabilities.

Moving on means finishing some things and, sometimes,  just giving up on others…

  1. The fruit and leaves look like Elderberry – if you can upload a photo of the bark, my resident tree expert can confirm!
