Arriving in Sicily was a lovely surprise. The landscape is completely different from any of the previous stops. This island is green and lush…and somehow you can feel you are in Italy, by the architecture, the aesthetics, the flowers, the shop windows, the way people dress…
Our tour started with a walk through Taormina. This could well be a corner of paradise. Beautiful views, lovely cobblestone streets, flowered balconies, enticing shops, plenty of restaurants and even a Greco-roman theatre! What more can one ask for?
The main street is dotted with piazzas surrounding fountains or churches or, often, both! It feels like stepping back in history, there are old private palazzos, next to medieval towers…
The balconies are adorned with cascades of flowers… and even, in this case, lemon trees.
The shops offer a variety of food, such as these almond paste vegetables and gorgeous pottery to serve them in…
Yet the best is yet to come as you walk up towards the Archeological site, you have the most amazing views.
And of course the thing that you want to see appear out of the clouds is Mount Etna. This is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and is in an almost constant state of eruption. We were lucky to catch a glimpse of it.

The forum when you get there is interesting…but of course after seeing Ephesus…all the other sites pale in comparison.
Etna is not the only active volcano we saw. We sailed by the Stromboli both on the way down and on the way back.
