Today we leave Antalya for Perge.
Perge was settled by the Hittites around 1500 B.C. The Kestros (Aksu) river, which ran through it, made Perge a port because it was possible to navigate. The city is also famous for the fact that St.Paul visited Perge in 46 A.D. and preached his first sermon here. That’s why it became an important city for the Christians during the Byzantine period.
Archeological digs have unearthed its theatre, its stadium, and porticoed road. The imposing towers framing the entrance are quite unique.
