This concludes my description of the sites we visited. There were experiences that I did not mention such as the narghile, (water pipe),
and the hammam (which I wrote about in my blog), the belly dancers (which we did see),
I have not mentioned the food, which was varied and flavorful (the desserts dripping with honey were my favorite part of every meal), the apple tea served in glasses, the Raki (an anise tasting alcoholic drink) known as the Lion’s milk,
Most meals started with “Meze”, a variety of hors d’oeuvres such as salad, garlic sauce, sliced tomatoes and cucumbers, cold cuts, fried vegetables, pastries, fish, yogurt, feta cheese…
Traditionally, even if Raki can be consumed as a cocktail, it is the preferred drink with Mezes.
But what truly enchanted me was the the arab culture: listening to the muesins calling for prayer, the beautiful calligraphy inside the mosques, the walking barefoot on carpets, the fountains, the tiles…
I forgot to describe the carpets, made of silk, cotton or wool, always double knotted to make them truly turkish…the traditional patterns of each region…
To me it truly is the land of a thousand and one nights…. or should it be a thousand and one delights…
