Last April I purchased a gardenia plant covered in blooms. I was hoping for an Easter flowering.
I waited and waited. Those blooms were big, round, shining green.
But what looked like a promise soon started looking like plastic fakes.
In disgust I brought the plant outside as soon as the weather permitted and proceeded to ignore it. The few blooms still hanging on, fell…
In time, new ones appeared… I did not hold much hope for those either….
Yet, the blooms finally burst open and revealed the beautiful creamy petals and the dizzying smell… and it went on and on… Day after day, new flowers appearing, while the old ones turned to a more intense yellowish colour yet continued to give off that intoxicating perfume….
