This is the title of a movie that just came out. It refers to the first letter of the first names of five brothers born in Montreal in the sixties . The movie tells their stories but focuses mostly on the fourth boy, who display early on, a sensitivity that is unusual for a little boy. As a child he is very close to his father, but as soon as the dad starts having doubts about his son’s sexual preferences, their relationship sours. From then on the boy pursues two goals: to regain his father’s affection and to find himself.
The actors are very powerful! The scenario is both touching and full of humor… The recreation of life here in the 60s and 70s is effective beyond belief: the Christmas parties especially will bring back memories for an entire generation…but mostly it is the attitudes and prejudices towards homosexuality that make the boy’s plight all the more poignant. His path is neither smooth nor linear, and that is what makes it more believable.
I enjoyed the sound track: starting with “Crazy” by Patsy Cline of course, but also a couple of classics by Charles Aznavour that brougth back many memories…
I enjoyed this film and recommend it to anyone who grew up here in the 60s and 70s.
