February is the month of carnivals. For years the only one in this part of the country was the Quebec city carnival, but for the last couple of years Montreal has been holding its own celbration. It is called the Montreal High Lights Festival. I am still not quite clear on how is works but this year they have added a new activity which I think is a great idea: a five kilometre foot race through the tunnels and passageways of the storied underground city. There will be 480 steps to climb and 569 to go down during the run so this will be more like a cross country run than a marathon.
There is room for 500 participants, but afterwards they will hold guided walking tours of the underground. There are 30 kilometre to walk through, that link 35 skyscrapers and ofice towers and 2600 stores…so plenty to see and discover.
The best feature is that weather cannot interfere with this activity.
