Day two

Back in the world of the living we had two days at sea so plenty of time to explore the ship. Our cabin, although in the cheapest category was roomy and very well insulated both sound and light wise. Our cabin stewart was very adept at making towel sculptures and had us laughing when we came back one night to find a monkey swinging from the ceiling. The housekeeping by the way is impeccable. The bathroom has a lot of storage and the most godawful lighting I have even seen…we look green even with a sunburn… The shower stall is on the roomy side but the light nilon shower curtain swings with the ship and always ends up sticking to your butt…I will have spent more time dancing with it than with any passenger on board the ship.

The ship, by the way, is called the Carnival Legend and so the stair wells are decorated with hammered metal panels depicting some famous legends. I was amused to see Buffalo Bill close to Romulus and Remus and Gulliver… Another feature along those stairs are glass vases…I bet a psychoanalist would have a field day with those as they have dripping appendages of the phallic variety.

Apart from that the ship has the usual collection of bars, pools, shops, restaurants, and of course a casino and a spa. We tried to experience everything once, so we went for tea and had scones and finger sandwiches, another time we tried the sushi bar at cocktail time, we did the deck party, the latin hour, the jazz bar, the party music, the classical music, the western music, even arts and crafts, the only place we did not really spend time in was the sports bar.

The food is incredibly abundant and varied…and unfortunately tasteless for the most part…but I cannot help but be amazed at the achievement of feeding so many people, so efficiently. We will visit the kitchens (or galley as it is called) this afternoon… that should be interesting. Photos to come
