We visited the galley, or one of them at least, as promised. Everything is stainless steel and very clean. I was amused to see that each dish on the evening menu is set up as a template.
Amusing tid bits of information: There is approximately 14000 meals served each day on the Legend. All the food is purchased in the USA, even if the ship stops in some of the producing countries, to make sure it passes all the american health requirements. There is only one micro wave on the ship and it is in the employees dining room. There really is food available 24 hours a day.
We also got a food carving and a towel and napkin folding demonstration, but the hit of the day was the midnight buffet.
As I have said, I did not find the restaurant food very tasty even if their description sounded wonderful and the setting and presentation were very elaborate. The buffets on the other hand had so much variety that I was always sure to find interesting choices. There was a pizza section, an american deli, a hamburger and fries stand, an oriental food area, a traditional american place, a salad bar, a fruit and cheese display as well as a well stocked dessert table and everyday was a different country in the food of the world section.
Which brings me to the most striking feature of this cruise. People ate such enormous amounts of food that what was eaten this week aboard the Legend would be enough to feed a third world country for months… I saw plates with so much food in them it was obscene…and of course the size of the eaters was proportionate. I am not slim and I am not weight obsessed but I have never seen so many obese people together: kids, teens, adults, seniors, men and women alike…some of them could hardly walk…between the dining table and the slot machines. I wonder how they managed in the shower..or if they needed two beds per person….Of course cruises appeal to people who are not very active and who like all you can eat programs…but I found it troubling…
Needless to say finding clothes must be a challenge when you are such a large size…but I saw some pretty awful fashion choices especially on formal night…clingy sequined gowns three sizes too small…strapless tops not large enough to hold in one of the two residents…Americans are said to be prudish about nude sunbathing…but I assure you they are not when it comes to wearing low cut tops. I have never seen so much exposed breast meat even in a Kentucky fried chicken restaurant.
On the topic of appearance, some people deserve points for trying. On the first day when they had the emergency drill one woman showed up wearing a flowered shower cap with red hair die dripping from under it…bad timing….On formal day I saw a lady with pin curls in the dining room…Oner thing I can say: people watching was NEVER boring!
