Have you heard the ads for a new generation of smart phones? Well, I think I have come across a new generation of smart raccoons.
YES! they are back. One morning I saw coon paws prints in the dew on my balcony, so I got the cage out again and sure enough as soon as the sun set I heard noise and by the time I reached the window, the trap door had snapped shut. I was stunned to see the raccoon on TOP of the cage and figured I must have set it wrong. But lo and behold there was one raccon on top but he was trying to free his comrade stuck INSIDE the cage. I watched as the free raccoon was soon joined by a third and together they climbed to the top of the pole holding the bird feeder….and they tried to get it off the hock and onto the ground. I finally succeeded in shooing them away by playing very loud music. So it was Eve 1 coons 0.
But since then…although they still visit and activate the trap and manage to eat all the bait…they have avoided getting caught. I have no idea how they do it. I have noticed they prefer sardines to tuna…but I have no idea how to catch them. They have started stinking up my house…and I am back to my initial despair…
As the wather cools outside mice are looking for winter digs also…I hear them and it is driving me crazy…
It is hight time I return to civilization….
