Last summer I planned a vacation on the Gulf side of Florida for this winter never guessing that I would win a cruise to the Caribbean in the meantime. That is how I got to take two trips almost back to back. The cruise story will eventually show up on the travel side, but the trip to Anna Maria Island I will talk about here.
First off, let me say it was cold, very cold, and extremely windy. Having said that, it is a beautiful place, the beach is an endless stretch of powdery white sand.
Because of the wind the waves were very high which is unusual for the gulf.
Sea birds fascinate me…and I was especially taken by these funny little guys braving the wind.
These were less showy but very fashionable with their polka dot tails:
We went walking in the marshes and saw several egrets (I hope that’s what they were)
While the east coast offers great sunrises to the brave, the gulf boasts lovely sunsets at a more civilized cocktail hour.
