We returned to the Sheldrick orphanage for a more “private” visit.
The elephants are brought back from the forest to their pens for the night. The smaller ones have a totally enclosed room while the bigger ones have a larger pen that is partly open to the skies. All have a cot for the keeper as each animal has a keeper with him 24/7 and they need to be fed milk every 3 hours.
Naipoki is very affectionate with hers.
She gets to wear blankets to make sure she does not catch cold and, as the baby, she was the one to go to sleep first.
It was interesting to watch the intercation between the elephants as they are placed close to their “friends” and you could see them reach out through their fences to touch and comfort each other. I also discovered they are ticklish behind the knees and quite playful, trying to lift things with their trunks.
